The moon hangs heavy in the starless sky
A single dog barks out in lonely song
But when you hear her mourning, don’t you cry
Just promise me you miss me now I’m gone
Retrace your footsteps leading to my grave
You’ve walked this way a hundred times before
Don’t answer to the wind that calls your name.
Ignore its icy howling at your door.
Shelter me against the winds turned bitter.
And sing to me a love song, soft and slow.
Put me to sleep beneath six feet of winter,
Kept warm with blankets of new fallen snow
And though you try forgetting me, you won’t.
For don’t you know, there’s such a thing as ghosts?
