YPSILANTI - Melvin Robert Carter, 83, died yesterday at his home, 9470 Willis Rd., after a long illness. He was born on Sept. 26, 1869, in Carleton, Mich., a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Carter.
He was employed by the Wabash Railroad for 32 years.
On June 20, 1903, he married Mary Elizabeth Kirchen in Ann Arbor. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, Lee of Ypsilanti; one daughter, Mrs. LaVerne Miller of Willis; and eight grandchildren. One brother, Delbert of South Lyon, died last Saturday.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Stevens & Bush Funeral Home, the Rev. William Pryor officiating. Burial will be in the Udell Cemetery.
