While most of us mourn the loss of traditional Halloween celebrations this year—scary movie marathons at home notwithstanding—the Ann Arbor Civic Theatre and Dexter Community Players decided to do something about it.

The two troupes, who haven't been able to perform in front of audiences since the pandemic started, will have a slow-rolling crowd for their shows on October 30 and 31 at The Petting Farm at Domino's Farm.

Halloween Drive features three spooky plays written by Brodie H. Brockie and produced by Patty Mazzola that people can watch as they cruise along a path in their cars at the farm, including:

The Bitter & The Sweet
Directed by Rob Roy
Choreography by Zoe Van Slooten
A trio of witches use black magic and the power of rock to summon a hoarde of zombies.

Invasion Halloween
Directed by Ron Baumanis
The audience is transported into a 1950s B-movie complete with alien invaders.

The Dance of Death
Directed by Brodie H. Brockie
Choreography by Lily Gechter
A lover in mourning visits their lost love's grave on the night of the Totentanz—when the spirits of the departed return to the land of the living to cavort.

Ann Arbor's favorite permanent Halloween celebration, Violin Monster, will also stalk the "stage" during Friday night and daytime Saturday's shows.

There will be 20 performances during Halloween Drive and each drive-through (plus stops) will last about 30 minutes. You can buy tickets in advance here.

The cost is $30 per vehicle, plus optional $5 purchases of a treat bag and $5 donations to Washtenaw Creative,

Christopher Porter is a library technician and the editor of Pulp.

Halloween Drive runs October 30 (7-11 pm) and October 31 (4-6 pm, 7-11 pm) at Domino’s Farms Petting Farm, 3001 Earhart Rd., Ann Arbor. Purchase tickets here,
