Search for the body of John J. Shanahan, fifth victim of a Portage lake multiple drowning early Saturday morning, ended at 11 o'clock this morning when the body was recovered from deep water about 2,000 yards out from the public park on the east side of the lake.

The body was first sighted on the surface by a lake resident who was fishing. She called her 15-year-old son who rowed out and brought the body to shore. Sheriff's officers, who have spent more than 200 hours each dragging the lake since last Saturday, had worked until about 9 o'clock this morning when rain forced them to halt dragging operations.

Bodies of the other four drowning victims, Miss Alice Burmeister, Manchester, and Mr. and Mrs. Jacob R. Shelton and Duaine V. Warner, all of Ann Arbor, were recovered earlier. The five drowned when their boat capsized during a midnight ride.

Funeral services for Mr. Shanahan will be held at St. Thomas Catholic church at 9 o'clock Saturday morning. The funeral mass will be conducted by Rev. Robert V. Ryan, Detroit, and burial will be in St. Thomas cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at the Muehlig funeral chapel at 8 o'clock Friday night.

A lifelong Ann Arbor resident and the son of John W. and Alice McCabe Shanahan, Mr. Shanahan was born here July 8, 1912. He was a member of St. Thomas church and was graduated from St. Thomas High school in 1933. Survivors include the father, a twin sister, Mrs. Gerard J. Camp, Detroit, and two aunts, Miss Ellen Shanahan, Ann Arbor and Mrs. A. J. McNamara, Detroit.
