A 16-year-old high school student who was rushed unconscious to University Hospital Wednesday night after collapsing in a Brown Hall dormitory restroom at Eastern Michigan University was reported in "fair to good" condition today. He was the victim of spinal meningitis.

The student, Gary Appelt of Roseville, who is in the "Upward Bound" high school program at Eastern, caused EMU and county health officials to send home 60 other students who had been in contact with him at a camp outing.
