Manufacturing operations at American Home Foods Division's plant of 3620 S. State, Pittsfield Township, will be permanently discontinued by April 30, putting up to 40 persons out of work.

A company spokesman, who today announced the decision to quit the Ann Arbor area, said the local plant's nut processing operations will be shifted to LaPorte, Ind. He added that a 2,400-square-foot office building and 13,260-square-foot plant on five acres at the S. State address will be put up for sale.

The spokesman said that he will work with the Michigan Employment Security Commission in helping workers get other jobs.

American Home Products Corp. acquired the local business in 1960 - before which it was called Franklin Foods, Inc. - and placed the unit within its American Home Foods Division which manufactures several lines of food products.
