Description

Independent and small press comics have long been sites of creativity, innovation, and resistance. These comics can exist in many different forms, from graphic novels to hand stapled zines printed on a risograph. In recent years, there has been an explosion of comics that represent a diversity of experiences and identities. Almost anyone can create a comic, but some artists elevate the medium and connect deeply with their readers.

This exhibit celebrates the original art of Ebony Flowers, Trung Le Nguyen, and Tillie Walden. Each of these artists have created impactful stories about family, identity, and the trials of growing up. Their unique voices and expertise of the craft exemplify a group of cartoonists who are ushering in new readership and exciting the next generation of artists.
