Join us for a celebration of Fu Pei-mei, the Taiwanese TV Chef who spent 40 years teaching people across the globe how to cook Chinese food through her cookbooks and television programs.
Local trivia aficionado Terry McClymonds, along with Dr. Wan-Thai Hsu, will give a trivia-filled cooking demonstration of tofu dishes in the style of Fu Pei-mei. Join us to expand your knowledge of tofu and Chinese cooking!
Michelle T. King is an associate professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she specializes in modern Chinese gender and food history. She was awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities Public Scholars grant for Chop Fry Watch Learn: Fu Pei-mei and the Making of Modern Chinese Food (W. W. Norton, 2024) and has received major fellowships from the American Council of Learned Societies, the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation, the University of Texas at Austin Institute for Historical Studies, and the Henry Luce Foundation. Michelle's new book is Chop Fry Watch Learn: Fu Pei-mei and the Making of Modern Chinese Food.
Terry McClymonds, a fixture of the Ann Arbor restaurant and bar scene for decades, has hosted Trivia Night with Terry! since 2011.
Dr. Wan-Thai Hsu, Chief Technology Officer of Soundskrit, also presents on food and cooking.
This event is in partnership with the Michigan Taiwanese American Organization and includes a signing with books for sale.
