It has been a great year for mystery and thriller readers! Writers of the ever-popular genres have churned out dozens of page turners all year long, but particularly this summer. If you love books that keep you on the edge of your seat, you’ll want to put a hold on some of these new-to-the-shelves titles that you won’t be able to put down until you turn the last page.

As she analyzes the communications of various suspects, Maggie begins to realize that there may be a particularly disturbing conclusion to this case. It’s an unusual summer for the town of Mirror Lake, and not only due to Hazel’s return: there’s been a bad drought and the water level in the lake the town is named for has significantly dropped. With the low water levels, long-buried secrets are revealed, secrets that the town has kept hidden for decades. Does the lake hold the answer to the mystery of Hazel’s mother’s disappearance? And is that answer one that Hazel wants to know?
