Description
Join us for a talk with the Sarah Gailey, author of Upright Women Wanted, the 2025 Big Gay Read selection.
Gailey will discuss one of the most crucial real-world pieces of inspiration behind Upright Women Wanted: authoritarian interference with media production and consumption. Upright Women Wanted focuses on the courageous, hardworking librarians who help citizens access information freely, and now, in an age of increasing far-right focus on literary censorship and book banning, that fight is crucial. Gailey will discuss the history and goals of media censorship, the legacy of the Hayes code, and the work readers can do in their local communities to protect the right to read, watch, and study freely.
