Super Search Five!

Imagine a word-search, but you've got to figure out the words, too! Meet the SUPER SEARCH!

In this hexagonal grid, there are 36 hidden words (forwards, backwards, or diagonally) that fall under SIX categories. Circle the answers as you find them—like with a traditional word-search, letters can be used in multiple words.

When you are finished, there will be 4 letters that aren't used in any words, which, when written in order, will give you your final code.

Your SIX word categories (with six words each): Michigan Counties with a population of at least 100,000, Stone Fruit, Hanna-Barbera Animated Characters, Elementary School Supplies, Beatles Songs (written by members of the band) with One-word Titles, and Famous British Novelists (last name)—all appear on the 100 Greatest British Novels list by the BBC.

All words have at least 3-letters, are not plural, and do not use abbreviations. No words are contained entirely within other words.

Any chance one of the Hanna-Barbera characters could be misspelled with a word containing a 'p' instead of an 'm'?

Hi there! If we're thinking of the same character, it's NOT one who is often PAIRED with his pal, Jerry! Rather, it's another FELINE FRIEND whose name is correctly spelled in the puzzle. Thanks for playing!!!!

The only bad thing about these puzzles is that I finish them immediately and have to wait another week for more. I could do them all day! :( The online version is A+, five-stars, 10/10. Kudos to the staffer that managed to code it.

Have to cry foul on one of these: _____ was a Harveytoon (based on the original Harvey Comic book), airing from 63 up through the 1990s. THIRTY YEARS. Hannah-Barbara then created a strange spinoff, "______and the An______s" which ran for exactly THREE months in the 90s and was barbarous. (No pun.) It should not be considered by any stretch a H-B cartoon.

Ha! Sadly, that weird spinoff is enough to get them on a list of Hanna-Barbera characters which makes them eligible for the puzzle. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: words don't get into a Super Search because they're OUR FAVORITES! They get in because they fit in the puzzle 😁!
(But perhaps this character will show up again if we do a Harvey character category in the future...adding it to the future category BRAINSTORM list!!!)
Thanks for playing!!!!!

Sadly, it looks like AADL is currently the only place that makes them!!! (We were inspired by a one-off puzzle by Will Shortz a few years ago, but more have YET to surface on NYT games!) Hope next week's puzzle is WORTH THE WAIT!!!! Thanks for playing!!!!

just a pedantic note but one of the clues reads "there are three British sisters who have their novels on this list: Villette, Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre" - those novels are only by two of the three sisters, as Villette and Jane Eyre are by the same person
