Description

This workshop encourages participation by women and gender non-conforming individuals in electronic music performance. Participation is open to all genders and provides a hands-on opportunity to learn the basics of modular synthesis.

Synthesizers can be mysterious instruments and it can be hard to know why they make the noises they do. This workshop will begin to demystify synthesis, give you some hands-on experience with a modular synth, and direct you towards resources to continue the journey on your own.

After leaving the workshop you will be able to:
- Explain what modular synthesis is and how synths generate sound
- Name many of the waveforms used in synthesis
- Use an envelope and explain what it is
- Describe modulation sources and ways we can use them
- Create a patch and jam with it

Produced in partnership with Immaculate Conception and Media Ensemble. No prior experience necessary.

This event is part of Make Music Ann Arbor. For more information, go to aadl.org/makemusic.
