Description
Reshaping Perspectives is a documentary photography exhibition of Rubini Naidu’s work that challenges dominant narratives and expands our understanding of identity, resilience, and belonging. As part of the KYLYN APIA Arts & Cultural Festival 2025, this exhibition brings together a collection of Rubini’s longform storytelling projects, illuminating underrepresented voices and lived experiences across diverse communities.
Through a lens rooted in empathy and social inquiry, Reshaping Perspectives highlights the intersections of race, migration, gender, and political conflict, offering a nuanced portrayal of communities often overlooked or misrepresented. The exhibition features stories of transgender advocacy, the displacement of refugees from the Ukraine-Russia war, and the resilience of Arab American communities in Dearborn amid ongoing violence in Gaza. Each image serves as a window into the complexities of the human experience, urging viewers to reconsider preconceived notions and engage with these narratives in a deeper, more meaningful way.
Reshaping Perspectives invites audiences to reflect, engage, and reimagine the ways in which APIA and BIPOC identities are interwoven into broader struggles for justice and representation. The exhibition will be accompanied by a gallery opening and artist talk, creating space for critical dialogue and community engagement.
This exhibit is part of the KYLYN APIA Arts and Culture Festival and is in partnership with the Washtenaw Community College Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
