Description
Eugene S. Robinson is a storyteller, first and foremost. He started telling tales as the vocalist for early American hardcore band Whipping Boy before moving on to the experimental punk of Oxbow, and now as the singer for the heavy-music quartet Buñuel, which is based in Italy and touring the U.S. this summer.
Robinson's journalistic voice is as confident as the one he uses on stage—from editor of the fashion magazine Code to the audio mag EQ, plus a long stint at the now-infamous Ozy.com as well as a freelancer for everyone from GQ to the metal-music mag Decibel, where he's a monthly columnist. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, Robinson is also one of the first Americans to cover mixed-martial arts, including the 2007 book Fight: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Ass-Kicking but Were Afraid You'd Get Your Ass Kicked for Asking.
A Walk Across Dirty Water and Straight Into Murder's Row, published in 2023, is Robinson's no-holds-barred memoir of his early days as a 1970s NYC punk rocker and his move into the 1980s publishing world while continuing to create confrontational underground music.
Robinson continues to spin brilliant yarns about culture and life for his Substack, Look What You Made Me Do, and his weekly video/podcast, Show Stomper!
