Out and About

Explore AADL's LGBTQ+ Walking Tour, which can be found at our DOWNTOWN BRANCH in printed brochure form, AND online! While you don't NEED the brochure to get the badge, it will help you find your way, and tell you more about the history of each stop on the tour.

PRO TIPS:

  • Wheelchair/stroller accessible, some codes are above head-height or may require looking from a distance
  • Paved Sidewalks
  • It is CONSTRUCTION SEASON! While we walked the path earlier this summer, construction might foil future plans for uninterrupted sidewalk use. You MAY have to cross the street and re-cross to avoid the dreaded CLOSED sidewalks!

Walking distance:
From beginning to end of tour: 0.9 miles
If you start at Maynard parking structure: 1.0 miles
If you start at Library Lane parking structure: 1.1 miles
If you start at Blake Transit center: 1.2 miles

HOURS
All codes are outdoors and are not dependent on businesses being open, though we DO recommend having some light to see the outdoor clues!

GETTING THERE:
If you plan on using the Ride, each location on the tour will have a corresponding bus stop. Find schedules HERE.

Address: The first stop on the tour is 516 E. Liberty, but you don't HAVE to start here! Each clue should tell you the address you're looking for, and they can be done in ANY ORDER!
Driving? Parking is available in several surrounding parking structures such as Library Lane, Fourth & William, and the Maynard structure, and limited metered street parking is sometimes available on nearby streets. Street parking and parking structures are free on Sundays, and street parking is free after 6 p.m. on weekdays!
Busing? The Blake Transit Center is located just across from the Downtown Library, and will add 0.3 miles to your total trip. The Plan My Trip tool will be useful if you're trying to bus to specific locations on the tour!
Biking? There are several bike racks around the downtown building if you plan to leave your bike and walk the rest of the way!

BEGIN outside of NECTO, formerly known as the Nectarine Ballroom, located at 516 E. Liberty! We'll tour FIVE of the ten historic sites on the LGBTQ+ walking tour, so get ready to take PRIDE in our city's queer history!
