Description
Explore a collection of Classic Chinese graphic novels (English/Chinese) that educate as they entertain by bestselling Taiwanese comic artist C.C. Tsai (Tsai Chih-chung 蔡志忠).
Two talks by CC Tsai's book translator/author, Brian Bruya, and educator Austin Belanger-Iott will cover the following topics:
- how CC Tsai became a bestselling cartoonist,
- the methods by which translation opened a new market and readership, and
- the ways that storytelling and visual communication engage students and readers of all ages.
Prof. Brian Bruya (Eastern Michigan University, Philosophy) will discuss how Tsai developed his comics, how they came to be translated into English for the American market, and what Tsai is up to now. And Austin Belanger-Iott (Waterford Montessori Academy will discuss how to use C. C. Tsai's comics to teach the basics of Confucianism and Daoism.
This event is in partnership with the Michigan Taiwanese American Organization and the Lieberthal-Rogel Center for Chinese Studies at the University of Michigan.
