Description
Come and learn about Arabic and what makes the language so unique. Its writing, sound system, and word formation are all quite different from English. Did you know that English has borrowed heavily from Arabic, tracing words from "artichoke" to "zero" back to Arabic origins? That it continues to use words traced back to Ancient Egyptian? That Arabic's modern spoken form differs greatly across Africa and the Arabian Peninsula? This is not a language tutorial, but you will learn a few basic words and phrases in Arabic.
Presented by Hossam Abouzahr, founder of Living Arabic, an online multi-dialect Arabic dictionary.
