Description

There's something magical about conifers. Is it their persistent foliage? The constancy of colors and textures they display in contrast to quiescent trees in a winter landscape? A palpable sense of wonder mingled with gratitude at the sight of harmonious Fibonacci patterns in a pine cone, the evolutionary precursor to the flower?

Listen. Can you hear it? It's the sound of an inquisitive "sniff-sniff", a whisper of memories rising up from the happy place inside your olfactory mind. The scent of pine, fir, spruce, cedar, a soft carpet of dry pine needles underfoot, teardrops of fragrant oleoresin coated in white crystalized resin acids—the scent of conifers! It's what this Smell & Tell is all about.

"Coniferous Splendiferous" features seven natural essences extracted from conifer trees used in perfumery. Materials are derived from needles, wood, resin and/or cones of conifers. A French fragrance for men is also on the menu. It’s warm, earthy, coniferous aroma appealed to men and women alike when it was launched in 1978, a quality that hasn't changed since.

The Smell and Tell series of art+science programming is led by Michelle Krell Kydd, a trained nose in flavors and fragrance who shares her passion for gastronomy, sensory evaluation, and the perfume arts in Glass Petal Smoke. Smell & Tell builds community through interactions with flavor, fragrance and storytelling.

Smell and Tell is presented remotely by Michelle Krell Kydd to an in-person audience. Fragrances and other materials are provided to in-person attendees.
