Residents of the Broadway area showed up en masse at the Planning Commission meeting Tuesday night, and they got what they wanted- there apparently will be no Bonanza Restaurant in their neighborhood. The commissioners rejected the recommendation for approval from their planning staff by a 7-0 vote. "Ann Arbor," commented Cmsr. Franz Mogdis, "has its share of f ast food restaurants." Cmsr. NancKWhite and Elwood Holman were absent. "I don't think," said Cmsr. Roger Bertoia, "that the restaurant would add to the quality of the neighborhood. This is not an appropriate site for this kind of business." According to Cmsr. Joyce Hannaum, the Bonanza would have violated the intent of the C-l (commercial) zoning, because it would "tend to be a nuisance to the surrounding section." Both Cmsrs. Frederick Hermann and Bertoia went a step further, suggesting that the area be. rezoned from C-l to avoid the problem again. The matter was referred to the planning staff for review on other zoning potentials for the area. The Bonanza Restaurant would have been located at 1741 Broadway, between Broadview Drive and Plymouth Road. In other action, the sion deferred approval of the preliminary plans for Argo Park until the planning staff is able to answer questions raised during the public hearing Tuesday night. The commission also approved the petition of Yu-hsin Shih of 1070 Barton Drive to annex a .4 acre parcel to the city for the construction 'of a single family structure. The parcel is located at 2606 Packard Road.
