An international symposium en drug abuse will be held at the Towsley Center for Continuing Medical Education in the University's Medical Center, Nov. 9-13. Over one year in preparation, the U-M drug symposium will festure specialists from the United States, England, Sweden, Switzerland and Japan. Experts from the world drug srene will cover all aspects of this problem, including the psychiatrie, legal and social Éspects of drug abuse. Although technical aspects of the drug abuse problem will be bandled in depth in the sessions of the symposium, its overall ;bjective is to assist the practicing physician in coping with írug abuse in patiënt care. The problem will also be treated in relation to the community, schools, courts and social agencies. Among the international faculty for the symposium will be Thomas Bewley, M.D., Tootng Bec Hospital, London; Dale C?meron, M.D., World Health Organiza tion, Switzerland; Leonard Goldberg, M.D., Karolinski Institute, Stockholm; Masaaki Kato, M.D., National Institute of Mental Health, Japan; Paul Kielholz, M.D., University Psychiatrie C-linic of Basel, Switzerland. Daniel P. Moynihan, counsellor to President Richard Nixon, will discuss the sociologie milieu as it relates to drug abuse. Other outstanding scholars participating in the conference include Dr. Abraham Kaplan, professor of philsophy, and Maurice Seevers, M.D., profes- sor of pharmacology, both members of the U-M faculty; Henry W. Elliott, M.D., of the University of California; Leo H o 1 1 i s t e r , M.D., Veterans' Administration Hospital (Palo Alto); Joseph Seifter, M.D., New York Medical College; Jerome Jaffe, M.D., University of Chicago and many others. Dr. Chris J. D. Zarafonetis, Ij-M professor of internal medicine, is chairman of the planning committee for the event which is to be held under the au spices of the department of postgraduate medicine of the U-M Medical School. ______
