A local man city police say has been linked to the largest marijuana haul in the history of Ann Arbor was arrested yesterday. Police Chief Walter E. Krasny says Kenneth Jones, alias Kenneth McCoy, 21, of 351 Beakes St., was in a car with two companions early Monday morning when the vehicle was stopped by officers on a routine check. Patrolmen found in the car 179 pounds of freshly-harvested marijuana plants packed in seven plastic bags and two suitcases. Jones and the other two persons, James Dempsey, 21, of 2323 Arrowwood Dr. and Geannette Bryant, 17, of 351 Beakes St., were initially released after quesioning but the marijuana was confiscated by police. Most of the drug weed was burned on Tuesday by officers. Jones was picked up on a warrant charging him with possession of marijuana. Warrants bearing the same charge have been issued for Dempsey and Miss Bryant. Chief Krasny says they have not yet been located. In Ann Arbor District Court yesterday, Jones demanded examination on the felony charge and an examination date of June 28 was set. He was remanded to the County Jail on a $100 bond after a state police officer placed a "hold" on him.
