YPSILANTI -Washtenaw County's hard drug treatment program received an $8,000 boost last night from the Ypsilanti City Council. The council approved a $2,000 donation to the program for the current fiscal year and a $6,000 donation during 1972-73. The additional monies, ït is hoped, will enable the program to expand to treat about 60 h e r o i n addicts in the Ypsilanti area as opposed to the 48 addicts who are currently enrolled in the Octagon House program. The donation was opposed by Councilman O. Shreve Waldenmyer and Mayor Pro Tem Michael F. Bunting. Waldenmyer said he opposed the donation until the council had completed its review of next year's budget while Bunting said, "I think there are too many problems yet to be resolved." Other council members ïncluding Mayor G e o r g e D. Goodman said they believed it was part of the council's responsibility to the community, particularly since the county had provided the council with a nine-page report of its activities. During one of last weeks informal budget sessions the councü had agreed it would not make a contribution to the program this year. The decisión was reconsidered after the council received the report from the county. Ypsilanti originally approved a $4,500 donation to begin the hard drug treatment center last year. At that time the council had expressed the hope that it would not be required to dónate any more funds to the program.
