I A turnover of ten per cent lor less in the Ann Arbor Publlic Schools' teaching staff for 1970-71 is expected, according [ to Stanley Zubel, assistant superintendent for personnel. The turnover represents about 100 positions compared with 150 last year and 256 the year before. The other side of the picture shows a tremendous increase in the number of teachers inquiring about jobs - 2,500 this spring. 1,700 last spring. Out of the 2,500 inquines, 1,600 have applied. Prescreening criteria (teaching experience, academie attainment, degree status, and experience) will reduce that numger to 400, meaning an average of four teachers will be interviewed for each opening. "Twenty-five per cent of our new teaching staff usual[y comes from the current -y é a r s graduates," says Zubel. , This spring some 23 schools are being visited, compared with only 14 last year, and the Personnel Office is in direct communication with about 37 other colleges and universities. The recruitment program now includes more schools that enroll large numbers of blacks. More blacks are attending northern schools and 80 per cent of last year's new black staff (28 out of 35) carne from such schools as University of Michigan, Easte r n Michigan University, Western Michigan University Wayne State, Northern Illinois, Penn State, Oberlin and Ohio Wesleyan.
