A 24-year-old flrsythe Junior High School teacher was beaten yesterday by a 13-year-old female student whom the teacher had tried to order out of her classroom. Mrs Mary Ann Otsuji, a home economics teacher, suffered facial and body bruises and was to enter a hospital this morning for X-rays for a possible nose fracture. The 14-year-old student has been suspended under the present disciplinary policy, pending a juvenile court hearing, according to Forsythe Principal William R. Rude. School officials also are investigating the possible involvement of another juvenile, also female, in the beating. "We consider it a very serious matter," Rude said. The principal gave this account of the incident: Mrs. Otsuji, who began teaching at the school last January, was instructing her class in the making of pizza about 2:10 p.m. yesterday afternoon when the juvenile girl knocked on the door and said she was looking for her counselor. Another girl was with her at the time. Apparently, Rude said, both girls wanted to come into the classroom, possibly attracted by the smell of baking pizza. Mrs. Otsuji told the girls they couldn't come in and asked them to leave. She then attempted to close the door, Rude said, and one of the girls swung at her with her hand, but missed. The girls then left. When the bell rang at 2:20 p.m., ending the period, Mrs. Otsuji stayed I behind with several students to clean up. The two girls suddenly returned. One asked the teacher why "she had dug her fingernails into her arm?" according to Rude. Mrs. Otsuji again asked the pair to leave, but the suspended girl struck her several times in the shoulder with her fist, Rude said. The teacher feil on the floor on her knees. As she went down, her face struck a chair. Rude said the girl continued to strike the teacher and pull her hair Several other students and a counselor managed to pull the attacker off Mrs. Otsuji. An Ann Arbor Pólice officer happened to be at the school at the time, but no reports of the incident were available at pólice headquarters this morning.
