Pioneer II, the voluntary alternative education program available to a maximum of 100 Pioneer High School students, will be the subject of an informational meeting , scheduled for 7:30 p.m. today in the Pioneer auditorium. Pioneer students, their parents and all interested members of the community have been invited to attend. The meeting agenda calls for remarks by representatives of the Pioneer II planning committee and faculty, Pioneer administrators, Steven Daniels, director of curriculum planning for Ann Arbor Public Schools, and other representatives of the central administrative staff. Topics scheduled for discussion include eligibility of Pioneer II students for regular extra-curricular activities at Pioneer High, application of Pioneer II course material in meeting college admission requirements, and the relationship of Pioneer II to the existing educational program at Pioneer. "The primary purpose of the meeting is to explain the Pioneer II concept to parents of students who intend to apply for the program," reports Joseph Pollack, interim principal at Pioneer. "Parental signature forms will be distributed and we'll accept completed applications following the conclusion of the meeting." All applications for enrollment in Pioneer II must be returned by Thursday, Sept. 23. If more than 100 applications are received, a random drawing will be held during a public meeting at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, in the Pioneer auditorium. The first 100 names drawn will be enrolled in the program, and subsequent names drawn will be designated as alternates in the order of selection. Pioneer II is scheduled to begin classes on Monday, Oct. 11. All teachers and students who will ultimately constitute the Pioneer II school community will remain at Pioneer I High until that date.
