A new attendance policy that will eliminate excused and unexcused absences went into effect today at Pioneer High School. The new policy, according to Pioneer High Counselor Robert Sloan, will also eliminate the need for students to use "admit slips" after an absence. Last week the Pioneer High faculty and student body approved the new attendance policy, which was under study for over a year. This policy was also discussed with the Pioneer Parent Teacher Organization Council and they also approved the plan. The effectiveness of this plan will be evaluated at the end 01' the semester. Students and parents are still advised to call in an absence, although the reason for the absence is no longer an issue. The school will no longer have to make a value judgment over whether or not an absence is excusable, said Sloan. The school will, however, initiate contact with parents when a pattern of truance is noted. Students will also have the right to make up work missed during any absence. Students will go directly to classes after a day of absence and will not need admit slips.
