Seven recommendations from a group of white parents, students and teachers were discussed last night in a closed meeting with the Ann Arbor Board of Education and school administrators. Some 125 persons including all secondary school principáis, and representatives from the elementary principáis attended the meeting which lasted five hours. According to William Stewart, school public information officer, "The recomí mendations were discussed and the board] and superintendent were generally re-I ceptive." An agreement was reached between the groups to place the recommendations on the agenda of next week's board meeting which will be a briefing session. Recommendations from the white group were: -Fair and equal treatment of all students should be insured. - An investigation of the nature and number of all thefts, extortions and assaults in the secondary schools during the last two years be conducted. - Steps should be taken to insure the safety of all students in the halls and lavatories. - A vocational counselor be employed by second semester. - The budget for industrial arts bel adequately increased immediately. - English courses for general students be revised. - A smoking lounge for all students and teachers during their free hour be made available. According to some of the written comments and rationale accompanying the recommendations the purpose of the investigation is for the board to learn the facts and not to indict any one group of students but to isolate and recognize troublemakers. "Student and teacher relationships could be vastly improved with a more informal situation," the recommendation on smoking states: "and current fier hazards in the restrooms would be eliminated."
