ir M 9 The Ann mbor Board of Education last night approved a revised building use and rental policy in the public schools which will hike rental fees an average of 50 per cent and will allow religious groups to rent the facilities. The latter provisión is a direct reyersal of previous board policy which stated "no schoost may be used for continuing religious instruction." The policy change was prompted by requests last February from two religious organizations - the Huron Valley Youth for Christ and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes- to form approved teen groups at the high school. The board decided in March not to grant these requests, but instead to revise the rental policy so the groups could rent facilities for regular meetings at a nominal fee. Another portion of the new building policy drops the provisión that "schools may not be used for teaching or promoting any theory or doctrine of a subversive nature." This provisión has been changed to read:' "Schools may not be used by any group or for any purpose which is unlawful." The board has stipulated that any group or orgam'zation "composed primarily of students must have responsible adult supervisión during the entire time that facilities are being utilized." Business Manager George Balas said an increase in rental fees had been considered for some time. Balas said he considered the new fees "reasonable1'- centrum in Abbot also will be used as a second-grade classroom. It had been announced earlier that two of the second grades would have class in the Fritz building, nearby Abbot School. Westerman said the change was made in response to a number of requests from parents of Abbot children. o o Westerman said according to a preliminary report, it appears that December or January are the earliest months during which a bonding election for school construction could be scheduled. He added that April and May seem to be the only months I for a millage election. The I superintendent stressed.l however, that these dates I were very preliminary. o o Westerman said a report would be, given next week detailing the reasons for the delay of the Jones School study, a study which will examine ín depth the results of the transfer of students from the Jones School attend-j anee área. Trustee William C. Godfrey requested an explanation of the delay, saying he was "quite concerned" about it .
