City Youth Scholarship Semifinalist
Walter W. Hill Jr., a senior at Pioneer High School, has been named one of 1,500 semifinalists in the nation in the fifth National Achievement Scholarship Program for outstanding Negro students. The semifinalists were selected from over 38,000 Negro students who particip.aed from more than 4,500 schools in the country. The National A chievement Seholarship Program is administered by the National Merit Seholarship Corporation. A total of 300 studente will win Achievement Scholarships worth at least $1,000 each.. Negro students compete simultaneously in the Achievement Program and the National Merit Scholarship "Program, but may not be awarded scholarshipsbyboth. The 1969 Achievement Scholarship winners will be announced in Maren. E v e r y semifinalist w h o becomes a finalis;t will be considered for one of the $1,000 scholarships as well as for fouryear scholarships. Winners of i'our-year scholarships receive $250 to $1,500 a year, depending on individual need, for each of the four years of college.
