School Supt. W. Scott Westerman Jr. said yesterday a millage request of "at least" 5.37 milis will probably face Ann Arbor School District voters next spring. This amount would include a renewal of 3.37 milis. The superintendent also predicted bonding issues for school construction- both in the $10 million range- will be put to the voters this winter (probably Dec. 18) and again next year. Westerman made his remarks yesterday anemoon during an address to all faculty mémbers on the status of the Ann Arbor Public Schools. Westerman stressed his millage predictions were merely estimates, due to the time which will elapse until a spring election. But he said a "considerable financial burden is yet to be placed on the community," despite the "impressive" port shown by the voters last June when they approved an 11.66-mill proposition for school operations. Westerman estimated the additional two milis (beyond the 3.37-mill renewal) will be needed to fulfill the obligations agreed to by the Ann Arbor Board of Education in the 196870 contract negotiated with the Ann Arbor Educaion Association. One of these obligations is the commitment of additional salary raises during the 1969-70 school year. "You are quality professionals who expect to be treated and paid as professionals," Westerman told the teachers. Loud applause followed that statement.
