Numerous Ann Arbor Pioneer High and Huron High School seniors were honored last night at the schools' annual senior banquets. The recipients of scholarships, scholarship offers and special awards were announced. PIONEER HIGH AWARDS Michigan Higher Education Assistance Authority Scholarship winners are: RobertN. Sell, Susan M. Wiedenbeck, Robert T. Itami and Nora K. Kosobud. Eastern Michigan University Regents Scholarships were presented to Betsy L. Johnsmiller, Susanne L. Lessels, Jane Mariouw, Linda Johnson (EMU honors scholarship, Robert Onderdonk (swimming scholarship) and Steve Robinson (EMU grant). Michigan State University Scholarships were won by Rebecca A. Davis, Colleen M. Houlihan, Glen D. Lum, Dona Meltzer, John S. Raeburn, Carol D. Swain, Christine E. Alexander, Lyn C. Latta, Daiva M. Kazlauskas and Denise C. Witcher. National Merit Scholarship winners were Nancy A. Burks and William H. van der Shalie. Certificates of Merit in the National Merit Scholarship contest went to Nancy A. Burks, Russell A. Dewey, Linda L. Halvorsen, Douglas Jones, Alonzo H. Kelly, John M. Larson, Suzanne Means, Carol D. Swain, William H. van der Shalie, Susan M. Wiedenbeck and Robert C. Wittes. A finalist in the National Achievement Scholarship contest was Walter W. Hill Jr. Ruth A. Crawford was the recipiënt of the Alma College Scholarship. Winner of the Albion College Grant-in-Aid was Kurt Wagner. Kenkon College scholarships went to Wayne Marshall and Peter Schneeberger. Edward Fetters received a Northern Michigan University Football Scholarship. A Northern Michigan University Vocational Scholarship went to Mary Sugden. Ohio Wesleyan University's tuition scholarship was awarded to Beth Rupert. Elizabeth Capps received a Pomona College Grant. Winner of a Valparaíso College Scholarship was Richard Jahns. A University of Wyoming Football Scholarship went to Gerald Schneider. A number of local organizations also have offered scholships to Pioneer students. Group Award; Leaner Webster- Student Loan Fund; Ted Kennedy- Robert E. Lewis Jr. Memorial Scholarship; David Nichols- James Kegeles Scholarship Award, and Thomas Adamson, Robert Early and Linda Muehlig- General Motors Bond Awards. A number of special awards were presented to Pioneer students. They included: Dona Meltzer, Waterman Alumnae Award for excellence in art; Jane Mariouw, Elizabeth Capps, Ann Atkinson, Lydia Whitney and Sue Vanderkaay, are book awards. The Bausch and Lomb Science Award was presented to Robert Early. Three-year awards from the Rifle Club went to Dan Shankland and Steve Raymond. Brad Feinberg received his second-year pin and was voted most valuable team member by the cross country team. Craig McKinnon received his varsity letter for cross country. A music award went to Marcia Fitts. Barbara Fuller received a mathematics award for placing first among Pioneer High students in the National Mathematics Contest. A Future Teachers award was presented to Marcia Troth. Hostess Committee citations went to Pam Meyers, Nan Hutchings and Connie Goldsmith. Carol Boychuck received a home economics award. Nineteen sports awards were presented. The winners were Bill Pritula, Steve Darr and Cam Mc Arthur- hockey; Reece Lopucki, Don Fahlgren, Allen Williams- golf; Pete Schneeberger, Ted Kennedy, Bill Elliott, Archie Brown and Pete Lodwick- basketball; Lou (Don) Weir, Stew Bick, Ted Kennedy, Bill Pritula, John Stephenson- tennis ; Steve Garris - wrestling i (three-year cup), and Robert Cooper and Fred Nimke- swimiming. Cooper received an American Honorable Mention jand Nimke received the Charles Boss Most Valuable Swimmer Award. Business awards went to Vicki Wurster, Gail Teachout, Nancy Hatch, Candy Notestine, Karen Bruce, Denise Labatsky, Gail Woodard, Diane Thomas, Sue Gochis, Nora Fileccia, Linda Randall, Lynn Pierce, Cathy Liggett, Darryl Smith, Stephanie Youngerman and Daiva Kazlauskas. Eric Hansen, John Raeburn and Laurette Spank won dra;matics awards. An industrial arts award went to Rodger Tripp. Grandville Writing Awards were won by Cheryl Bennet, Myra Grenier, Linda Muehlig, Sally Sellers, Kurt Wagner and Micki Wright. Linda Muehlig received the Margaret Waterman Alumnae Writing Award. Scholastic Writing Awards went to Russell Dewey, Anne Eschelbach, Linda Muehlig, Sally Sellers and John Stephenson. Winner and runner-up in the National Council of Teachers of English contest were Russell Dewey and Linda Muehlig, repectively. Student Council awards went to 15 Pioneer seniors for their service to the school as Student Council members. They are Cathy Abell, Torn Burkley, Lindsay Chaney, Bob Cooper, Becky Davis, Steve Froelich, Steve Garris, Debbie Hoffman, Larry Hunter, Darcy Lenz, Craig McKinnon, Patty McWilliams, Pete Mets, Hester Puiling and Marcia Watson.
