The appointment of Mrs. Josephine Brokaw, former principal at Perry, Mack and Thurston schools in Ann Arbor, as director of compensatory education was confirmed last night by the Ann Arbor Board of Education. Mrs. Brokaw will replace Evelyn Moore, who takes over 1 as special assistant to Dean I Wilbur Cohen of the U-M I School of Education Sept. 1. I The director of tory education is responsible j for the coordination and I ministration of all federal Title I programs of the Elementary and Secondary Education I Act. Mrs. Brokaw has been on I leave from the Ann Arbor I Public Schools since 1967 to I serve as a consultant in I mentary and secondary I catión at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India. She came to the Ann Arbor School System in 1953, and taught at Eberwhite School until 1957. Mrs. Brokaw was principal at Perry School from 1957 to 1958, at Mack School from 1958 to 1965, and at Thurston School from 1965 to 1967. Previously, she taught in Maumee, Ohio., and at the U-M's University School. The new director of compensatory education received both her bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of Michigan. Mrs. Brokaw was president of the Ann Arbor Teacher's Club (now the Ann Arbor Education Association) from 1957 to 1958. Mrs. Brokaw has three children.
