Negotiations Begin On New Teacher Pact

Collective bargaining teams for the Ann Arbor Board of Education and the Ann Arbor Education Association began negotiations last night on a totally new contract. The present two-year contract expires Aug. 15. C u r r e n t negotiations will cover such items as class sizes, teaching hours, teaching load, school calendar, board and association relations, f r i n g e benefits and salaries. At the first meeting both teams agreed to meet at least weekly until June to resolve the issues. In the collective bargaining process, representatives of the Board of Education and the Anh Arbor Education Association make and discuss proposals and counter-proposals until agreement is reached. After agreement is reáched, the proposed contract requires ratification by the Board of Education and members of the education association.
