Fifteen employés who are retiring this year from the Ann Arbor Public Schools were honored at the first annual Retirement Dinner at the Hilton Inn. It was sponsored by the Board of Education and the Ann Arbor Education Association. The 15 persons have given a total of 452 years' service to public school systems throughout the country and in Ann Arbor. The retirees who were honored are Mrs. Hazel Messner, Miss Hazel Rich, Mrs. Thora Budd, Miss Velma Coyne, Miss Mildred Peterson, Mrs. Alice Mallek, Mrs. Lucille Wilson, Mrs. Mildred Hackney, Miss Helen Dobson, Rudolph Silverstone , George Balas, Mrs. Clara Dodge, Mrs. Dorothy Hale, G. Elwood Bancroft, and Mrs. Evelyn Kruger. Each retiring staff member was presented with an inscribed silver bowl and a pen and pencil set. Speakers were School Supt. W. Scott Westerman Jr., School Board President Harold J. Lockett, and AAEA President David R. Harrell. The Huron High Chamber Choir, under the direction of Ruth Datz, performed during the evening.
