An aiSninistrative assessment of the state of discipline in the Ann Arbor Public Schools this past year, along with recommendations for change next year, will be presented within a 'few weeks by School Supt. W. Scott Westerman Jr. Westerman told the Ann Arbor Board of Education last i:ight the report will be a companion to a report being prepared by a special Discipline Review Committee. The committee is reviewing the discipjine policy adopted last summer by the school board. The policv has been soundly criticized by many community groups as being nothing but a "suspension and expulsión" policy. Westerman said he is prompted to issue his own evaluation to set the record straight from his perspective on the state of discipline in the schools. The report will include statistics on ' the number of incidents and assaults reported in the schools during the 1969-70 school year. Westerman said the schools have been "scapegoated in a way that's been unjust" this year, and he called some of the i arcusations about lack of discipline and attacks "hysterical I and paranoic."
