Dr. Hazel Turner, the Ann Arbor School District's director of pupil personnel, reflects on her job, her childhood and her education. A native of Birmingham, Ala., she graduated from Tuskegee Institute and received two graduate degrees from New York University, despite the responsibilities of supporting her parents while still in college.
