Editor, The News: í f ) Cheers for Trustee Henry Johnson. ín" his statement of May 28, Ann Arbor News, he has faced the central issue of this year's school board race fairly and squarely whatever the cost: the credibility of the Ann Arbor Board of Education and Central Administration. In this he has shown himself not only honest but responsive to the public. It has been painful this year to observe citizens prostrating themselves before an unresponsive board and administration bent on giving the community what was "good" for it and in the name of democratie process, to see administrative waste escalated in the name of fiscal responsibility, a distinctly anti-teacher (therefore, anti-student) combine calling at the same time for humaneness and classroom-oriented learning. Our community is honestly divided on the issues involved in proposed changes. No amount of relabelling or horse trading among ourselves through the good offices of front men and strong men will solve our social and educational problems. We can do this only in honest debate with each other where the listening and compromising is open, truly democratie and sensitively adjusted to the needs of all our children and the future well-being of the Ann Arbor community. I will vote for Trustee Johnson to speak for me in that debate. I hope to discern two other candidates who are sensitive to the credibility issue.
