Toril j't% If you are seeking a teaching position for next year in the Ann Arbor Public Schools, you will have to wait until at least May 14 to be hired. According to Director of Perfconnel Thad Carr, the "vasti jmajority" of openings for teachers in the public schools cannot be filled until the results of the May 13 millage election are known. On that date, the Ann Arborj School District voters will be asked to approve a five-year package of 11.66 for school operations. This package includes a 4.5-mill renewal and 7,16 new milis. If the millage propositioni goes down to defeat, .Carr said, j teacher hirings will have to be] further delayed until a lateri millage is approved by the voters or until substantial cuts are made in educational programs. 'Carr said he is not even 1 suing "letters of intent" to the prospective teachers this year, because of the school district's uncertain financial situation. Another factor which may hold up teacher hirings are teacher-Board of Education neggotiations. The personnel office cannot officially hire any teachers f or 1968-69 until a contract is agreed upon by the board and the Ann Arbor Teachers' Association, Carr said.
