Miïlage renewals and bond issues fared comparatively well in statewide voting Monday, but requests for new millage for school districts found the going somewhat harder. Incomplete ballot returns showed over 80 per cent of millage renewal requests were passed, while districts were split roughly 50-50 in passing or rejecting new millage proposals. In what many observers considered a key election in Kalamazoo, voters turned down a requested addition 3.5 milis by a margin of 12,689 to 7,762. School officials had called the increase vital to prevent cutbacks and teacher layoffs.
