The proposal is a 17-mill package for operating consisting of 12 milis for renewal and five milis additional for one year. The proposal was defeated 1,092 to 992 fr A second proposal for one mili for three years to establish a building and site fund, which was defeated 1,292 to 789, will not be placed on the ballot again. Another election has also been scheduled in the Brighton School District for mid-August. However, the amount to be voted on will not be determined until Monday night. Two bonding proposals and two millage issues were turned down in the Brighton election. One bonding proposal for $9,669,000 lost 897 to 687. It called for the construction of a new high school, development of an athletic field, site purchase and renovation of the present high school. The second bonding issue was rejected 1,077 to 503 and was for the construction of an indoor swimming pool. The millage issues, b o t h increases. were for five years. A five-mill proposal lost 873 to 695 and was for increased costs, teachers' salaries and additional teachers. The second proposal for onemill was defeated 928 to 641 and was earmarked to help finance the community school program. Wood seemed to sum up the feelings of many fellow superintendents with this comment: "It's an almost untenable job being a school superintendent today because of the financial hardships."
