School Supt. Ie Bruce McPherson recommended last night that the Board of Education not return to the general public to seek additional millage for support of schools. "I consider the message of the electorate in June to be clear and compelling. In response, this administration will opérate the school system with the monies that are currently available to us," McPherson said. The new administrator also told the board that "our efforts to achieve efficiency within the first week of this administration have begun with the administrative staffs and budgets." McPherson told the press earler that he and members of his staff had taken salaries below what the board had offered in order to help relieve the budget pinch. "Most administrative and supervisory salaries will be budgeted at present levels and many will be reduced," he said. "We will meet our legal obligations and deliver educational services to the community within a balanced budget." McPherson also told the board, that in his ongoing process of evaluation and scrutiny, unneeded positions will continue to be elimina ted. Operation costs, he said, throughout the administrative offices will be trimmed. "With efficiency, we can do more than simply maintain the present quality of services; we will improve that quality," said the new superintendent. "Finally, I want to point out that I will make periodic reports to the board as well as the general public regarding our continuing scrutiny of our budgeted resources."
