Half Dozen School Board Petitions Filed

- jf f f "i 't f Six candidaté petitions have been filed so far for the June 12 Ann Arbor Board of Education election. The deadline for filing is Monday at 4 p.m. There are three seats up for election this year and all three I incumbent board trustees have 1 indicated that they will seek re-election for another threeyear term. Terms expire this June for Board of Education President Cecil Warner and Trustees Ronald Bishop and Henry Johnson. Petitions for the election have been filed by Lettie Wickliffe, Bishop, Curtis Holt, Marilyn (Terry) Martin, Nancy Brussello, and Gretchen Groth Wilson. The Ann Arbor Citizens for Responsive Education (CARE) - a liberal citizens group - has endorsed Mrs. Brussello, Bishop, and Johnson for the election. The Human Rights Party (HRP) has also publicly endorsed a slate of three candidates for thé non-partisan election, Sonya Yaco, Gretchen Wilson and Holt. The legality of the candidacy of Miss Yaco is still to be determined since she is only 15 years old and state law says, candidates must be at least 18. The Tappan Junior High School student says she will take the issue to court if her petition is denied. There was a report her petition also had been filed. According to Richard Creal, assistant to the deputy superintendent for operations, a total of 10 petitions have been taken out and the names of the official candidates will be announced following the petition deadline Monday.
