1- Yes. Yes. 2- A 1 1 h o u g h the high schools are overcrowded, the total system is definitely aot, as a recent -study has revealed many empty classrooms. Thus, it is unnecessary to build a new high school, provided that we apportion the students accordáng to available classrooms. Unplanned juggling of students has resulted in a mismatching of students and facilities. By no means is there a simple solutioa to this problem however, as philosophies of education and social orientation are involved. The ad hoc committee on overcrowding in the high schools has recommended that the overload in the high schools be alleviated by busing 9th and lOth graders to elementary or junior high schools or by transfering 8th grade students from middle school to traditional junior highs. Perhaps it would be more sensible to simply add or subtraet eme grade at existing schools, as the case requires. It is essential that any adjustments in student distribution are made in conjunction with a coordination of curriculum throughout all grades. It is of paramount importance that we now look at the total system and not disjunctive parts. 3- The needs of students and society must be balancedi against numbers, cost and physical facilities. Academie, vocational and the equally necessary artistic and physical skills are essential in preparing students for a well rounded and productive life. Basic training should take prcedence over socialization and activities which could be provided by volunteers in scouting and recreation or by social (OVER PLEASE)
