"In the Ann Arbor schools, much can be done. . I "Free daycare should be available to I all students and staff. More funding should go to alternative programs like Community High, Roberto Clemente, and Earthworks. SelL-defense instruction I should be given to women students. I formation on birth control should be I freely available to all students. I ized tests, which are biased against I black and Third World students, should I not be used. Students should have I píete freedom to choose what they study, I and where and how their education takes I place. I "The 'free press' policy, designating I one place in each school for display of I printed matter makes a mockery of free I speech. A real free press policy which I guarantees the rights of students and I I staff to unhampered distribution of any I literature must be instituted. The move I I to centralized curriculum planning must I be stopped; each school community of students and staff should control its own curriculum. "But in the Ann Arbor schools, I ty is the real order of the day. "The history curriculum glorifies , I perialism and makes héroes of generáis and millionaires. It perpetuates racism I toward Native Americans and other nonI white peoples. It ignores the real heroism of the labor movement struggles. I "The multi-ethnic curriculum has been I diverted from its proper focus on nonI white peoples. In the latest attack on that I program, the administration fired RosetI ta Miller, black and female, and a threat I to the power structure. HRP supports Ms. Miller's fight against racism and I sexism in the Ann Arbor school system. "Obviously, the Ann Arbor schools I need radical changes. HRP believes I schools should be run by those inside I them, no matter what their age. On the I Board of Education, HRP would speak to I the real issues that affect the students I and staff." Ettinger, 20, is a past member of the I HRP city and steering committees and I worked in the 1974 HRP school board I campaign. Ettinger also works with the I Youth Liberation of Ann Arbor.
