Propasáis ranging from fire protection to abolishing the annual township meeting wUl be on the ballot for the Aug. 6 Primary Election in área townships. Three ballot items will be decided in Superior township. One proposition requests creation of a park commission. Supr. Z.T. Gerganoff explained that if the commission is approved, the Township Board would appoint from seven to nine citizens from the township to serve on the commission with staggered terms. The members would serve until the next general election. Then, persons would run for the terms and be elected to the positions. The second proposal is the renewal of 2% milis for five years for fire protection and prevention. The third proposal would authorize levying of the millage. Gerganoff explained the millage would bring in an estimated $150,000 in revenue to the township and would enable the township to set ande funds for future uses. He I noted these uses would include operating I the fire department, buying equipment and obtai ning a site f or a substation . In Brighton Township, citizens will be voting on request to abolish the annual township meeting. The other item is placing the township's full faith and credit behind a bond issue of $375,000 sought by the building authority. As provided in a contract between the township board and the authority, the funds are planned to be used for a new township hall and fire hall at Whitmore Lake and Hyne Roads. Citizens opposing the contract, because of soil conditions at the site and its location, circulated petitions for a referendum. A total of 912 signature was collected, although only 346 valid signature were needed. Genoa Township is seeking one mili for two years for road improvements. If I approved, the levy on the 1974 tax base would produce $40,600. Three ballot items face Green Oak Township residents. Proposal A asks for authorization to levy a half-mill for five years to support the pólice department and acquire facilities and equipment. A half-mill levied on this year's tax base would produce $21,750. Proposal B requests one mili for five years to purchase land and to construct a Green Oak Civic Center which would house township government offices. One mili levied on the current tax base would bring in $43,500. Proposal C is a referendum in an attempt to reverse a zoning action made by the township board May 13. Then, the board rezoned 7Vè acres on East Shore Drive along Whitmore Lake from single to multiple family use. Petro Ficaj, owner of the property, plans to build apartments on the parcel.
