Burgoyne's Phony Issue
SHIRLEY Em&fftfe's failtíxe to win a highly qualified rating from the Washtenaw Bar Association is not, as she says, evidence of male bias. It is, as one of our readers wrote, sour grapes, however. Perhaps there is an inclination to put too much stock in such a rating. After all, it is the people who will decide. And it is the people who helped to give Shirley Burgoyne the lead over a field of five candidates in the August primary. Her protest is understandable btfrunfounded. The Bar Associa-I tion assessed the qualificationsl and abilities of the candidatesl fairly and honorably. Simply be-J cause most of the members arel male does not signify bias in be-l half of male candidates, as Bur-I goyne would have people believe. I Her own best saíisfaction de-l rives from finishing first in August. If she builds on that triumph, she doesn't need to react so vehemently to an unfavorablel review.
