Second Ward City Council representative Robert G. Faber announced today i he will seek re-election to the seat he won in 1969. Faber will be seeking the Democratie nomination at the Feb. 15 primary election. David Bloom earlier announced he is running for the Democratie nomination. No Republican has announced for the seat. It is anticipated Faber will be the only ward representative seeking re-election next April. Faber, of 2455 Adare Rd., was one of five Democrats elected in the 1969 race which saw Democrats take control of the council. He is owner and operator of Faber's Fabrics shops. "For the past two years I have been privileged to be part of the Democratie majority on Ann Arbor's City Council and to have had the opportunity to help formúlate its decisions," Faber said in announcing his candidacy. "We have been aware of the frustrations and the problems of our city's voiceless citizens and have attempted to design legislation for their and the city's benefit. We have tried to deal sympathetically with the changing needs of contemporary youth and assist wisely in resolving their developing problems. "We have been active and effective in our support of innovative youth-oriented projects designed to reach the. alienated young. We have recognized the recreational needs of youth and channeled a potentially explosive 'rock' confrontation into an acceptable series of Sunday 'rock' concerts," Faber said. "We have been very effective in giving voice and validity to the aspirations of the black community by our sive support of the Model Cities program and by our successful efforts to appoint key black administrative personnel to our city government. We have adopted a ' housing code designed to conserve our diminishing housing supply and to assist those tenants who were being victimized by the few unscrupulous landlords. "We have worked to make a good L Pólice Department even better and I more responsive to the needs of all the community," Faber continued. "We have designed and implemented a reliable city bus system that reaches into all areas of our city. We have legislated a i ) meaningful affirmative action program. We have made impressive strides in I curbing air and water pollution." Faber added, "We have done all this I and much more, but we have only I begun. Many of our programs have been I committed te paper, but have not yet I had the opportunity of implementation. The need remains to consolídate the city's gains and move further in the direction of justice and dignity for all our citizens. "Effective, fair government is a complex matter. I seek re-election so that I can continue to use the knowledge I have acquired on the mechanics of government to support those human concerns I endorse," Faber concluded. Faber is a 1949 gradúate of Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa., and he carne i to Ann Arbor in 1954 f rom New Jersey. He is married and has three children.
