QLhAál Candidates fotfthis month's H City Council election spent more than $23,000 seeking the ] privilege of representing their wards. According to expense , cords filed.with the county clerk, 13 of the 15 candidates spent 'a total of $23,766. ! though the legal deadline for , ■ filing expenses has passed, two candidates - Republican Lloyd Fairbanks and Democrat Michael Morris - have not recorded their expenses. Fairbanks, w h o won his Fifth Ward race, has filed his lown personal expenses, but Inone of the campaign comImittees working for him have ■filed. Morris has, filed neither I personal nor committee exI penses. The spending per candidate Iranged from a high of $3,846 I for GOP victor C. William , I Colburn in the Third Ward, to la low of $449 for David F. I Black, defeated Fourth Ward I I candidate for the Human I I Rights Party. I The' Republicans were the 1 I biggest spenders with their I I candidates (at least the four I w h o have filed) recording I ! more than the Democrats and I HKP candidates combined. I The GOP expenses totaled I $12,719, followed by the Ij crats with $7,349 and the HRP ■ with $4,282. ! The biggest difference be-B t w e e n the Republican and I Democratie spending, accord-B ing to the reports on record, was in the party contributions. Various GOP affiliated groups chipped in $5,770 to their candidates, while the Democratie hopefuls received only $995 from their party. Chief beneficiarles of the Republican party contributions were Colburn, with $2,315 from the county Republican party, Fourth Ward winner Bruce Benner, who got $1,500 from the Ann Arbor Republican party, and First Ward unsucceessful candidate Robert Foster, with $1,500 I from the county Republican I organization. Stoll, Democrat, $1,549; Gene A. Plamondon, HRP, $817. FOURTH WARD: Bruce Benner, GOP, $2,138; Mona Walz, Democrat, $2,009; Davie F. Black, HRP, $449. FIFTH WARD: Floyd Fairbanks, GOP, not filed yet; Franz J. Mogdis, Democrat, I $2,663; Nancy Romer Bur! ghardt, HRP, $463. 1 therefore, I have not and will not ask for endorsement from any one party or group. In addition to her work as an attorney, Mrs. Burgoyne coaches the Greenhills School debate team and is a member of the Michigan Speech Coaches Association, the Michigan Council for the Study of Abortion, the American Association of University Women and the First Presbyterian Church in, Ann Arbor.
