Murray F. Knowles Jr. . o' 1209 Arbor View, seeks Republiean nomination to the office of county surveyor. 1- The writer has been a registered surveyor and civil engineer for 20 years; his family has pursued the same profession for over 200 years. He has been continuously active in the profession since 1942 and has attended the Universities of Detroit, Wayne and the University of Michigan. He has been Washtenaw County drain commissioner and county drain engineer for Washtenaw and Monroe Counties, and is the only active registered surveyor seeking this office. 2- With the number of. land transfers in Washtenaw County occurring at an unprecedented rate, many key survey pofnts have not been. recovered or re-established since they were set by the original federal government surveys. Consequently, today a disproportionate financial burden is placed on individuals requiring surveys in these extensive areas. It is the opinión of this candidate that the replacement of these points should be the responsibility of government and a program developed (similartotheWayne County-wide resurveys of the 1930's) to re-set and record these basic points throughout every section and township in Washtenaw County. Until this is done (conceivably with federal matching funds) the high survey costs to many thousands of individuals and organizations will continue and the litigation arising from conflicting surveys will become progressively j er. If the writer is elected to the office of Washtenaw County surveyor, he will present a well-planned countywide resurvey program to the County Board of Supervisors for their consideration which would be extremely beneficial to both the county and its individual constituents.
