Emu To Honor Ann Arbor Man
YPSILAÑTI- Victor F. Spathelf, former president of Ferris State College, will be the speaker at the 118th June Commencement of Eastern Michigan University on June 5. He will receive the honorary degree of doctor of laws at that time, the Board of Regents decided yesterday. These f our others will receive honorary degrees at the Commencement ceremonies: Earl Cress, president of the Ann Arbor Trust Co.- doctor of laws. Norman Drachler, Detroit superintendent of schools- doctor of laws. F r a n c i s A. Kornegay, executive director of the Detroit Urban League - doctor of humanities. John H. Johnson, president of Johnson Publishing Co. and editor and publisher of Ebony and other magazines - doctor of humane letters. Anative of Benton Harbor, Spathelf has devoted h i s career to education in Michigan. He has held high posts in a number of public school systems and was dean of student affairs at Wayne State University before going to Ferris State in 1952. He retired on Dec. 15, 1970.
